See you next year, San Nicolò!

After arriving from far away, visiting the children, the elderly and all the inhabitants of the valley, Saint Nicholas will undertake the return journey to his homeland.

To greet him once again and wish him a good journey, San Nicolò will arrive in Arabba on Friday, 6 December at 17:00 on the ground floor of the Tourist Office.

On this occasion San Nicolò will hang all the drawings made by the children on the trees for the occasion!

Disks and colours will be available for the children to hang up after the event.

Saint Nicholas - Curiosities

The figure of St Nicholas, who lived in the 4th century, is traditionally celebrated on the night between 5 and 6 December: according to tradition, St Nicholas gave a dowry to three poor maidens so that they could go and marry, and - on another occasion - he saved three boys.

In the Middle Ages, the custom spread across Europe to commemorate this episode with the exchange of gifts on the saint's day (6 December).

The custom is still in vogue in many European countries and in Italy: on the night of 5 December he rides his mule through all the countries and visits the children, if they have been good they will receive small gifts, while the naughty children have to deal with his hairy, demonic servants.
