Launched as the biggest "bike day" in Europe, the organizers of the long-awaited Dolomites Bike Day, scheduled for Sunday, June 16th 2019, must turn back following a negative opinion expressed by the Municipality of Canazei in Trentino.
In fact, after announcing the closing of the Passes of Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola and the great novelty of the extension of the road block of the Fedaia and Pordoi passes, the organizing committee of Dolomites Bike Day takes note of the decision of the municipal administration of Canazei, which on 10 April announced not to authorize the closure of the roads affected by the passage of cyclists, thus blocking the initiative in the Trentino area.
With the Dolomites Bike Day, therefore, on Sunday 16 June 2019, we will return to the traditional ring that connects three passes, two provinces and three Ladin valleys, through the passes of Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola. A route of 51 kilometers with a total drop of 1,290 meters, surrounded by nature that winds through the most panoramic and renowned roads of the Dolomites, for the occasion closed to traffic from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
With the decision of the municipality of Canazei the committee that was composed of the Marmolada Tourist Association Rocca Pietore Dolomiti, APT Val di Fassa, Alta Badia and Arabba Fodom Turismo Tourist Associations returns to have only two members of the organization committee, Arabba-Fodom and Alta Badia.
"Our bike day, although scaled down, will be an event entirely made in the Dolomites to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO Dolomites - commented Arabba Fodom Turismo president, Manuel Roncat and the president of the Alta Badia tourism associations, Oscar Alfreider - it would have been an opportunity for visibility and attention for the Rocca Pietore, hard hit by the atmospheric events of last year ».
Dolomites Bike Day is born without any competitive character and is designed for bike lovers, in all its forms, from racing bikes, to mountain bikes, to e-bikes, to experience a day immersed in the quiet and unique scenery of the Dolomites . Each participant can decide in total freedom from where to start and how to compose the path that best suits his or her preparation. The recommended direction is counterclockwise, so if you decide to start cycling from Arabba, you will reach Pieve di Livinallongo and the Fodom valley, and then climb towards Passo Falzarego. Crossing the Passo Valparola, you would descend into the Val Badia with the passage to the centers of San Cassiano, La Villa and Corvara, and once you climb gently up Passo Campolongo, you would close the ring returning to Arabba.
Of course the tour can be tackled from any point.
